On December 13th 2019 we were invited to share our project with the Lewisham History Society. Whilst we were there we collected memories of the gas iron, washing day and tin typewriter.
” the iron melted, all the lights were out when I got home, this melted thing was on the ironing board. It was a gas iron of course..”
“.. a gas iron with a flex, connected it to the gas tap with a tube, then lit it with a match..”
” We didnt have electricity until I left home in 1958 to join the army. We had gas lighting..”
” I used to sell these. They were blue at first, then this green..”
